O'Laneway

An adaptable approach to gentle density in Renfrew, prioritizing efficiency while redefining relationships within the site.

Location Renfrew, Calgary

Size 500 sq ft

Status Proposed

Located in Renfrew, O’Laneway is within a strong community with great access to Downtown, Bridgeland-Riverside, Inglewood, and multiple major thoroughfares. The property marks the beginning of a long and winding lane - giving this project the opportunity to serve as a catalyst for a future laneway streetscape.

O’Laneway is a compact laneway dwelling that exemplifies the beauty of simplicity. Despite its compact footprint, the dwelling provides a generously open kitchen and living space, as well as a loft bedroom that quietly tucks itself beneath a gabled roof.

Wooden interiors are warmed by southern daylighting, highlighting the wood finishes that offer a natural calmness to the living experience of this compact home.

Resting atop a mirrored band and integrated fence, the expression of the roof solves multiple design facets, becoming both the identity of the building while providing sheltered circulation space on one side, and a covered patio on the other.

We believe that materials are fundamental to how we experience a building. Beyond their touch, a material’s smell, sound, and weight influence the atmosphere of a space. Materials must be chosen carefully and crafted with care to achieve a space that is instinctively welcoming and contextually suited.
